Online Music Cartel - why do artists still accept dinosaurs dated defense

“Let’s say Ford and GM decide to get together to sell cars. We would blink a couple of times and then we’d say, ‘Hey, that’s a cartel. You can go to jail for that.’” –Bob Lande, professor, University of Baltimore Law School

Three minute formats, and fixed pricing on Cd’s does raise some questions (like everything else the four major do). These dinosauers have ruined the music business mainly for the artists (only to a certain degree for themselves). Now these dated giants are setting all sails in preventing progression - even though statistics (and common sense) are poiting to bloggers (and to a degree fileshares) have a benificial impact on music sales.

It’s just the format, the pushing, the industry and the price that is wrong. People don’t mind paying a few bucks to keep their favourite artist peddling music for a living. Why the up-and-coming artists will accept this, is hard to understand. Perhaps they really don’t want more than 15 minutes of fame and a ‘big’ upfront check.
